Menu for the Month of Shiwasu (December)
We're all running around getting ready for the winter holidays! Even priests and monks are busy-busy. In Japan, both Shinto priests and Buddhist monks lived sedate lives, walking slowly, never rushing - except in December when we are preparing for holy days and family times. The same is true in Australia and in the West. A close friend of mine is a Christian priest, and December is Advent, a quiet, prayerful time to prepare for the birth of Jesus. My friend Andrew is devoted, but hardly prayerful. He is preparing and offering more services, creating special holiday sermons (new ones every year), greeting out-of-town family of his parishioners, and going to many celebratory dinners and events. In Japanese culture, an extra: The Japanese do early winter cleaning instead of Spring cleaning. And everything must be very, very clean, for in the Shinto tradition, cleanliness is very close to holiness.
Shiwasu translates as the time of year everyone - even the priests and monks - are rushing around.
My wife Miho and I invite you to slow down, stop in, and start celebrating life and love with us. Come taste your favourites from our delicious menu of kingfish, scallops, wagyu beef, and more prepared in the traditional style in an intimate restaurant where our attention is on love, friendship, and the most delicious food.
Dinner menus are available at lunch time if you book in advance and ask for them.
